Homemade Southern Mash Potatoes

Do you remember the time when your mother used to make homemade mash potatoes? Nothing in the world could compare to your mother's cooking, my mother made some of the best Buttery smother potatoes in the world. One thing I truly miss and that's her homemade mashed potatoes, and her gravy...oh my goodness. This recipe below is definitely not your mother's homemade mashed potatoes...But, It will make you think about your mother's mash potato recipe. Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 Large Potatoes
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Soul Food seasoning (All Purpose Seasoning )
  • Garlic Powder
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Onion Powder
  • 5 to 6 Tablespoons of Unsalted Butter
  • ¼ cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • Use your own measurements (As we say in the South, eye ball the measurements for your liking)
Directions
  1. Wash and clean your potatoes, with a potato peeler or a knife peel your potatoes and cut them into cubes.
  2. Put your potatoes in a steamer pot Or an electric steamer will work. If using an electric steamer set your timer for 25 minutes for the cooking time.  FOR STOVE TOP COOKING: Boil water in a large pot, And allow your potatoes to cook until they are tender.
  3. Now add your cooked potatoes to a large bowl, and add all of your ingredients...
  4. You can use a potato masher or a hand mixer to cream your potatoes to the consistency that you like. If you have to add more heavy whipping cream to make it more smoother, Please do so.
You could definitely pair this recipe with any of your favorite proteins such as poultry, fish, pork, beef.
